Dating Safely on Pepr

At Pepr, your safety is our top priority. Whether you’re getting to know someone through the app or heading out on a first date, we want you to feel confident and informed every step of the way. This guide covers what to watch for online, how to prepare before you meet, and how to stay safe in person.

Online Safety

Protect Your Personal Information

Never share sensitive information—such as your home address, workplace, financial details, or daily routines—with someone you’ve just met online. When setting up your profile, use only your first name or a nickname. As you build trust over time, you can share more at your own pace.

Keep Conversations on Pepr

For your safety, keep all communications within the Pepr app. We monitor interactions to detect unusual activity and inappropriate behavior. If someone pushes you to move the conversation to a messaging app, email, or phone too quickly, treat that as a red flag and proceed with caution.

Never Share Financial Information

Never send money or share banking or payment details with someone you’ve met on Pepr, regardless of the reason. Scammers often use emotional manipulation or fabricated emergencies to solicit money. Legitimate users will never make such requests. Report any suspicious activity immediately through the app.

Be Wary of Long-Distance and Overseas Contacts

Be cautious of users who claim to be local but say they are currently “stuck” abroad, particularly if they ask for financial help. If someone consistently avoids video calls or keeps postponing an in-person meeting, these may be signs of a fraudulent profile.

Before You Meet

Pepr is built around real-world connections—but feeling ready and confident before you meet is just as important as the date itself. Take the time you need.

Get to Know Them First

Before agreeing to meet, exchange messages and build a genuine connection. You can also suggest a quick video call to get a better sense of who you’re talking to. There’s no rush—meeting when you feel ready makes for a better experience.

Inform Someone You Trust

Let a trusted friend or family member know your plans: where you’re going, who you’re meeting, and how long you expect to be out. You can also share your live location via your phone during the date for added peace of mind.

Arrange Your Own Transportation

Be in control of how you get to and from the date. Whether you drive yourself, use a ride-share app, or make other arrangements, having your own way out means you can leave whenever you need to—no explanations required.

Trust Your Gut

If something feels off before you’re supposed to meet, it’s okay to reschedule or cancel. Your comfort and instincts matter. You can always continue messaging through the platform until you feel ready.

Ask Questions That Matter to You

Before meeting in person, ask the questions that help you feel informed and comfortable. Finding out about someone’s intentions, interests, and preferences is a natural part of getting to know them—and it helps you decide whether a date makes sense.

On Your Date

Meet in a Public Place

Always meet for the first time in a well-populated, public location—a coffee shop, restaurant, park, or similar venue. Avoid private or secluded spaces until you’ve built trust over time.

Watch Your Drink and Belongings

Only accept drinks directly from a bartender or server, and never leave your drink unattended. Drink tampering is a real risk. Keep your phone, wallet, and keys on you at all times.

Know Your Limits

Be aware of your alcohol and substance intake, and don’t feel pressured to consume more than you’re comfortable with. If your date pushes you to drink excessively or do anything that makes you uncomfortable, it is entirely appropriate to end the date.

Trust Your Instincts—Again

If at any point during the date you feel uneasy or unsafe, don’t hesitate to leave. Your safety always comes first. Bartenders and servers can also be a discreet source of assistance if you need help.

Consent should be the foundation of any intimate interaction. Check in with your partner throughout, and ensure both parties feel comfortable and respected at every stage. Consent can be withdrawn at any time. No one is ever owed physical intimacy.

Protect Yourself

Using protection, such as condoms, helps prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Some infections—including herpes and HPV—can be transmitted through skin contact. Stay informed about your options and take the precautions that are right for you.

Know Your Status

Get tested regularly for STIs, and have open, honest conversations with partners about testing and protection before becoming physically intimate. This is a normal and healthy part of dating.

LGBTQ+ Safety

Pepr Dates is an inclusive platform and welcomes members of all identities. We recognize that LGBTQ+ members may face specific safety concerns, particularly when traveling to or meeting in unfamiliar areas. Always review local laws and customs before visiting new places, and exercise additional caution when meeting new people in regions where LGBTQ+ individuals may be at elevated risk.

If you have concerns about your safety in a specific context, trust your judgment and reach out to local LGBTQ+ organizations or support resources as needed.

Reporting Suspicious Behavior

If another user makes you feel uncomfortable, crosses your boundaries, or violates Pepr’s Terms of Use or Community Guidelines, please block and report them. You can do this directly through the app. Common red flags include:

All reports are reviewed by our trust and safety team. Your report is confidential and helps keep Pepr safe for everyone.

Pre-Meeting Checklist

Before agreeing to meet in person, use this checklist to make sure you feel informed, comfortable, and ready.

Topics to Discuss

  1. What kind of dates do you enjoy? (Casual coffee, something active, a longer evening out?) This helps you plan something you’ll both enjoy.
  2. What are you looking for on Pepr? Make sure your intentions are aligned before meeting.
  3. What’s your favorite way to spend free time? A low-stakes way to learn about someone’s lifestyle and interests.
  4. Any preferences or needs I should know for our first meet? (Dietary needs, accessibility, location preferences, etc.)
  5. How do you usually feel about first dates? Knowing whether they prefer something short and casual versus a longer outing helps set expectations.
  6. What are your local favorites? Asking about their go-to spots in your city is a natural conversation starter and can help you plan the date.
